Troubadour Holidays

Around Halloween I was contacted by the brilliant Sage from Troubadour Consulting and she asked me if I could take their mascot (I like to call him "Graphy") and make holiday versions of the little guy for their social media profile pictures.

So I asked, "Sage, do you want me to put tiny hats on the mascot?"  The answer was a resounding yes and we have been having fun with this project for months now.

Movie Pitch, in 12 comic panels

I have a knack for picking out successful adaptations.  My senior year of college I adapted the book "Wicked" by Gregory Maguire into a play and produced it for my senior thesis.  Two years later "Defying Gravity" was sung at the Tony Awards.  For one of my post-graduate classes I made a graphic novel based tv pitch to the Showtime network for a little show I called "Game of Thrones".  Ten years later Peter Dinklage picks up an Emmy Award.

I have used this skill to my own benefit exactly no times.  However, my clever brother-in-law Toby (who is a writer) found a method of movie pitching that was right up my alley.

Behold:  12 Panel Pitch: Can you sell an idea for a feature film in a 12-Panel Comic?

This project had it's inception at the Center for Cartoon Studies, which was my dream school back in the day.  Check out the incredible story ideas and maybe even submit some of your own.  The deadline is December 13th!

Spooky Story

Ordinarily I post television comics on Thursday, but I actually didn't watch TV this week.  So instead, in honor of Halloween, I am offering this comic based on a scary true story.

I made this years ago and I changed the names and faces of all the people involved.

When I was a little kid living in Albuquerque with my Mom, Dad, and baby sister we had an annual tradition of going to the church across the street for a midnight pancake breakfast.  We would get dressed way after bedtime and walk in the dark to the party.  My parents had recently purchased an alarm system (due to a series of neighborhood break-ins) and Mom made sure to turn the alarm on before we left the house.

Once we arrived Mom realized she forgot her wallet.

Mom walked back home in the dark.  Before she could open the front door she heard the phone ringing.

There was a hallway in our house that pointed directly to the phone.  If the lights were off you could stand in the hallway and be completely invisible.

My Mom, who is no dummy, dropped the phone and ran like hell back across the dark street and into the church full of people.  The priest (who was a family friend) called the cops.

The moral of the story is this, trust your instincts and don't forget your cash at home!  Have a Happy and Safe Halloween everybody!
